After watching X Overland’s first couple of seasons and seeing them work toward completing the Pan-American Highway, the seeds of possibly completing this daunting adventure myself were firmly planted.

Canada's north has always been a place of mystery and wonder to me. As a boy, I watched Farley Mowat’s, Never Cry Wolf so many times, I thought the VCR would break! So, when the chance came for me to possibly spend a summer working up north, I jumped at it and was fortunate enough to be selected to go.

Welcome back to the fourth and final chapter of our Christmas 2022 trip to Utah and the southern US. After a restful night's sleep in front of Catacomb Rocks, we woke to another stunning dawn, I stumbled down from the tent just as the sun was gently breaking over the ridge leading to Anticline Overlook.

From where we last left off, and with my brain still trying to comprehend all the amazing history and breathtaking views of the San Raphael Swell, we finally reached the outskirts of Moab.

Part 2 of our journey begins right where we left off, facing east on the Bonneville Salt Flats taking in one of the most glorious sunrises I’ve ever seen. After soaking up the sun for a bit Layka and I explored more of the area before packing up. The only trace we left behind were a few tire tracks but the imprint this area made on my soul was profound.

I remember watching an episode of Expedition Overland’s first season a while back and was amazed to learn that all their incredible adventures started with a trip to Moab to reflect and ponder the future.  I remember Clay and the crew saying how it was time to pursue their passion and how they needed to go to adventurous places and do adventurous things and how you can really find yourself by going on adventures.

The fun part of this trail is a series of switchbacks that are comprised of loose rock that need more attention. I was hearing stories of adventures past when other members of our crew had to winch out friends who had slipped off the trail! There were definitely a few “Pucker moments” but we all made it down the trail with ease.

The Whipsaw Trail is one of the most iconic trails in Canada and one that I have wanted to attempt for a while now. Over the August long weekend, I got my chance. Through Ian, a buddy of mine, I was able to join along with a group of Hummer enthusiasts on their Whipsaw trip. Although being excited about going, I will be honest, I was a bit nervous as well.

Back in early June the Jeep was coming together so the push to get out and test everything was at an all time high. After a couple messages to the crew, a few of us banded together to head out for the weekend. The destination was a place that I’ve been wanting to get to for some time but didn’t think I had the rig to get there…..until now! Where were we going you ask? The north end of Chehalis Lake, a beautiful spot that up until now I have only seen pictures of.
